Don't Miss Maria Volonte: Blue Tango! Tonight in Vancouver ,Sunday afternoon in Mission.

A Latin Grammy Winner, Gardel Prize Winner (Argentina’s Grammy) and member of the Tango Hall of Fame, Volonté has emerged as one of the most admired and passionate voices in Argentine music. A singer who combines the “earthiness of Edith Piaf with the sassiness of Eartha Kitt” (Jazz Perspectives), Volonté is also a restless musical innovator who “plays impressive acoustic guitar and is willing to experiment” (The Guardian).

"Argentine singer Maria Volonte's powerful, refreshing interpretation of tango is fully capable of transplanting itself into folk, Latin blues or the traditional music of Peru, Uruguay and Brazil. With its mature sensuality, her music is filled with a potent brew of nostalgia and melancholy"

“the earthiness of Edith Piaf with the sassiness of Eartha Kitt”   Jazz Perspectives
Railtown Cultural Eclective presents The Blue Tango Tour — a collaboration between the celebrated Argentine tango singer María Volonté and California harmonica player Kevin Carrel Footer.
This globe-trotting duo celebrates the deep spiritual bond that joins tango and the blues, two musical genres born in desire and marginality, many times censored yet always resurgent and speaking directly to our hungry souls.
Dubbed “Tango’s shimmering star!” (Global Rhythm), Volonté conquered the world of tango with numerous award-winning CDs. Her current projects explore the fusion of Argentine music with other Latin American rhythms, jazz and the blues.

A Latin Grammy nominee, Gardel Prize Winner (Argentina’s Grammy) and member of the Tango Hall of Fame, Volonté has emerged as one of the most admired and passionate voices in Argentine music. A singer who combines the “earthiness of Edith Piaf with the sassiness of Eartha Kitt” (Jazz Perspectives), Volonté is also a restless musical innovator who “plays impressive acoustic guitar and is willing to experiment” (The Guardian).

The concert is being held at the Fraser River Interpretive Centre at 33428 Harbour Avenue and starts at 3:30pm with doors at 3pm. This Bear (Jacques Lalonde) is probably different from the average Grizzly you may have seen during one of your hikes. He sings, he dances, and he does yoga, a true Vancouverite. The text was well written and Lalonde's acting was unquestionable...I do recommend it so get your motor running and head down to the (Havana) Orpheum.  Plank Magazine
Railtown Cultural Eclective brings the Bear – A Short History of My Life as a Bear, that is, to their Trier Performance Series at the Orpheum Annex, Wednesday, May 22 at 8pm.
Written by Kempton Dexter, the play revolves around an Uber Vancouver Ursus Arctos Horribilis, aka Grizzly bear, just waking from his winter snooze. Our friend the Grizzly is full of stories and songs about the age old relationship between Human and Bear. This transformative piece, directed by and starring Vancouver Fringe Festival veteran Jacques Lalonde,  will make you laugh and sing as well as touch you with it’s very different way of looking at things.
The old Bear is well past his prime and full of sage advice he has learned from his friend the Old Bat. The story takes place in the woods of course, the natural “Church of the Bear”, complete with a bear choir.  Audience members are invited to sing along. You are invited to send in your best bear stories/poems, (500 word  max.) to info@railtownce.ca by May 18 for a chance to win 2 tickets if your story is chosen to be read at the play.
Dexter, aka Hi-rise Dex, is a singer, writer and sculptor. In 2012 he published a collection of his short stories, Mrs. Ceperley's Garden and Other Plots, which is receiving wide acclaim. He has written and produced a number of short plays including: Man Women Buddy, Jumpin' Jehovah, The Paint Crew, All he left were his Stories and Nancy, which was in the 2012 Vancouver Fringe with A Short History of  My Life as a Bear.
Jacques Lalonde, the Bear, has hosted two nationally broadcast TV shows, REEL TV and pilot 1 for the CBC, had a recurring role on Madison and was featured on The X-Files, the Addams Family, 21 Jump Street and Sesame Street. Over one million kids and grown ups have seen Jacques perform live onstage with the Carousel Theatre, Green Thumb, The Arts Club, The Vancouver Children's Festival and the Comedy Festival as well as hosting LIVE CITY VANCOUVER at the 2010 Olympic Games.
